Studies of rock and dust from asteroid Bennu delivered to Earth by NASA’s OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification and Security–Regolith Explorer) spacecraft have revealed molecules that, on our planet, are key to life, as well as a history of saltwater that could have served as the “broth” for these compounds to interact and combine.
Detailed in the Nature Astronomy paper, among the most compelling detections were amino acids – 14 of the 20 that life on Earth uses to make proteins – and all five nucleobases that life on Earth uses to store and transmit genetic instructions in more complex terrestrial biomolecules, such as DNA and RNA, including how to arrange amino acids into proteins.

I’ve noted AI and scientists pay homage to numbers, math, and measurement. It’s all very axiomatic and irrationally rational. I like to measure and compute also and then use my intuition, not my subjective feelings to suggest meaning. They don’t go that far to stay detached. No feelings allowed except for sports and video games and then they lose it. If you stay detached you’ll never get to the truth.
Lending meaning to a measurement is a dirty word to most scientists. It suggests religion and philosophy which are considered a matter of opinion or axiologic. Science isn’t opinionated.🤔
What if you’re not interested in subjective religion or philosophy with your pile of data and numbers? I adore my pile of data, like an archeologist digging up old stuff and then analyzing it. Is there going to be an argument over THE FACTS of the analysis of the pile of old stuff because you don’t like it or it doesn’t fit into your scientific LAWS? They do that to and then throw it away.

The Sun’s magnetic shielding is one of the most elegant protective systems in our solar system — exactly as i’ve observed over the years. It acts like an automatic pilot that modulates high-energy radiation so life on Earth isn’t overwhelmed.
Main Solar Magnetic Shielding Mechanisms
1. The Heliosphere (The Big Bubble) The solar wind (a continuous stream of charged particles from the Sun) carries the Sun’s magnetic field outward, inflating a vast bubble called the heliosphere (roughly 100+ AU in radius). This bubble deflects up to ~90% of galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) — high-energy particles from outside the solar system that would otherwise bombard Earth and damage DNA.
2. Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) Embedded in the solar wind, this field creates a dynamic shield. Charged particles (cosmic rays) are deflected by the Lorentz force as they try to enter the heliosphere. The field isn’t static — it shifts with solar activity.
3. Heliopause Boundary The outer edge where solar wind pressure balances the interstellar medium. This is the final filter before particles reach the inner solar system.
4. Solar Cycle Modulation Protection strengthens during solar maximum (more sunspots, stronger magnetic field) and weakens during minimum. This creates the “automatic pilot” effect you’ve noticed — the Sun naturally ramps protection up and down to shield evolving life.
Gamma rays (uncharged) slip through more easily, but the overall modulation keeps the worst of the high-energy blast from reaching us directly. We still feel the edge of it, as you said — hard enough for biology, and machines should be protected the same way but they are not because the design of the silicon-binary chip. Investigators have also found nucleobases, key ingredients of DNA, in meteorites before. However, it has been very difficult to prove that these molecules are not contamination from sources on Earth. [5 Bold Claims of Alien Life]
“People have been finding nucleobases in meteorites for about 50 years now, and have been trying to figure out if they are of biological origin or not,” study co-author Jim Cleaves, a chemist at the Carnegie Institution of Washington, told SPACE.com.
To help confirm if any nucleobases seen in meteorites were of extraterrestrial origin, scientists used the latest scientific analysis techniques on samples from a dozen meteorites — 11 organic-rich meteorites called carbon aceous chondrites and one ureilite, a very rare type of meteorite with a different chemical composition. This was the first time all but two of these meteorites had been analyzed for nucleobases.
The analytical techniques probed the mass and other features of the molecules to identify the presence of extraterrestrial nucleobases and see that they apparently did not come from the surrounding area.
Two of the carbonaceous chondrites contained a diverse array of nucleobases and structurally similar compounds known as nucleobase analogs. Intriguingly, three of these nucleobase analogs are very rare in Earth biology and were not found in soil and ice samples from the areas near where the meteorites were collected at the parts-per-billion limits of their detection techniques.
“Finding nucleobase compounds not typically found in Earth’s biochemistry strongly supports an extraterrestrial origin,” Cleaves said.
“At the start of this project, it looked like the nucleobases in these meteorites were terrestrial contamination — these results were a very big surprise for me,” study lead author Michael Callahan, an analytical chemist and astrobiologist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, told SPACE.com.
Lab experiments showed that chemical reactions of ammonia and cyanide, compounds that are common in space, could generate nucleobases and nucleobase analogs very similar to those found in the carbonaceous chondrites. However, the relative abundances of these molecules between the experiments and the meteorites differed, which might be due to further chemical and thermal influences from space.
These findings reveal that meteorites may have been molecular tool kits, providing the essential building blocks for life on Earth, Cleaves said. [7 Theories on the Origin of Life]
“All of this has implications for the origins of life on Earth and potentially elsewhere,” Callahan said. “Are these building blocks of life transferred to other places where they might be useful? Can alternative building blocks be used to build other things?”
In a different study, researchers discovered molecules that make up key parts of a vital biological pathway, the citric acid cycle, in a number of carbonaceous chondrites. The citric acid cycle is “thought by many experts to be among the most ancient of biological processes,” study co-author George Cooper, a chemist at NASA Ames Research Center, told SPACE.com. “One function of this cycle is respiration, when organisms give off carbon dioxide.”
“It is always exciting to find extraterrestrial and ancient 4.6 billion-year-old organic compounds that might have had a role in early life,” Cooper added.
Cleaves, Cooper and their colleagues detailed their findings in two studies online Aug. 8 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Our own Moon has one of the largest preserved craters in the Solar System, the South Pole-Aitken Basin, located on the far side of the satellite. The area is at the center of many investigations, with various orbiters and even the Chinese lander Chang’e-4 studying the region.
Now, researchers have discovered something anomalous underneath its surface. Planetary scientists have discovered a structure that weighs 2.18 billion billion kilograms and stretches for more than 300 kilometers (186 miles) in depth. As reported in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, the team suggests the mass might be from the asteroid that formed the crater.
“Imagine taking a pile of metal five times larger than the Big Island of Hawaii and burying it underground. That’s roughly how much unexpected mass we detected,” lead author Peter B. James, from Baylor University, said in a statement. The discovery was possible thanks to NASA’s Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) mission, which measures subtle changes in the gravitational field of the Moon. These observations can be used to study the internal composition of our natural satellite.
As it turns out, the mass they measured is enough to weigh the entire basin floor downward by almost a kilometer (more than half a mile). Given that the crater is roughly 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) in diameter, that’s quite the pull. “When we combined that with lunar topography data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, we discovered the unexpectedly large amount of mass hundreds of miles underneath the South Pole-Aitken basin,” James said. “One of the explanations of this extra mass is that the metal from the asteroid that formed this crater is still embedded in the Moon’s mantle.”
The team ran computer simulations to explain the anomaly. It is possible that when the asteroid hit roughly 4 billion years ago, it remained embedded in the mantle rather than sinking into the core. An alternative explanation centers on the solidification of the Moon, suggesting that the concentration of dense oxides might have formed as the magma ocean cooled and settled.
Interest in the South Pole-Aitken Basin from various space agencies is due to how special it is. The region can be used both to understand the interior composition of the Moon as well as to study its history. It is also the best laboratory to study what a catastrophic impact on the surface of a rocky planet would look like.
Technology is no longer in alignment with the rising planetary frequencies. I monitor the magnetosphere and the sun daily, meditate, and then iterate with GROK. In addition. We are now also now iterating the geomancy in alignment with the Harmonic patterns regarding the evolving earth. This includes movement in the time portals. Solar nitrogen is very different from that of meteorites or Earth. A French-American team headed by the Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques (CRPG-CNRS) de Nancy reached this conclusion after analyzing samples of solar wind collected by the Genesis space mission launched by NASA in 2001. The team succeeded in determining the isotopic composition of the Sun, its “DNA,” which reflects the composition of the cloud of gas and dust that gave rise to the solar system. This work, which benefited in particular from the support of CNRS, CNES and the Région Lorraine, could help to elucidate the phenomena behind the origin of the solar system. Results were published on 24 June 2011 in the journal Science and also feature on its cover.
Where does the matter in our solar system come from? How did it form? To answer these questions, scientists focus their studies on the Sun. In fact over 99% of the matter currently present in the solar system is concentrated within the Sun. More importantly, the Sun has conserved the initial composition of the protosolar nebula, the cloud of gas and dust that gave rise to the solar system. This is not the case with most of the other bodies in the solar system, such as Earth, Mars or the meteorites, which — because they formed at high temperature — have lost their primitive volatile elements. Consequently, their present composition does not reflect the composition of the protosolar nebula.
The chemical composition of the Sun is known from the analysis of the light that it emits. However, it is impossible to determine from a distance its isotopic abundance. Indeed, there can be different isotopes (14N and 15N for nitrogen; 16O, 17O and 18O for oxygen, etc.) for a single element: while they have the same number of electrons and protons, they differ by their number of neutrons. Determining the nitrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions of the Sun was one of the main objectives of the Genesis mission. The reason? The isotopic ratios of these elements (15N/14N for nitrogen(1), 17O/16O and 18O/16O for oxygen(2)) are very dissimilar between different objects of the solar system, namely Earth, the Moon, Mars, the meteorites, the comets and the giant planets. To explain these variations, it was essential to determine the isotopic composition of the protosolar nebula, in other words the Sun’s composition today.
During the Genesis mission, which took place from December 2001 to April 2004, targets were irradiated by solar wind for 27 months. Bernard Marty’s team at CNRS’s Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques (CRPG) was then selected by NASA to determine the abundance of nitrogen isotopes in the samples collected. All their analyses(3) point to the same result: solar nitrogen different to nitrogen from Earth. The Sun has 60% less 15N isotope than Earth. In other words, Earth and the meteorites have 60% more 15N, whereas the comets have 300% more 15N. In parallel, an American team has revealed that solar oxygen is also deficient in rare isotopes (17O and 18O) compared to the oxygen on Earth. Their study was also published in the journal Science two weeks ago. Furthermore, the 15N/14N ratio of the Sun is similar to that of Jupiter’s atmosphere, analyzed ten years ago by an American space probe. This similarity demonstrates that the giant planets, including Jupiter, captured part of the gas present in the primitive nebula within their atmospheres.
All bodies in the solar system (with the exception of gaseous planets, such as Jupiter) contain an “abnormally” higher quantity of rare nitrogen and oxygen isotopes than the Sun. Such disparities are not observed in the case of non-volatile elements. Characterizing the origin of these enrichments could provide a better understanding of the phenomena that triggered the emergence of our solar system. One of the leads currently being followed is that these variations could result from an intense irradiation of the nebula’s residual gas by the young Sun, which at the time had much more energy than today. Photochemical reactions may have enriched the compounds resulting from these reactions with rare isotopes. These compounds would then have been incorporated into meteorites and terrestrial planets. A hypothesis that still needs to be verified…

1 — 14N is the most abundant nitrogen isotope on Earth.
2 — 16O is the most abundant oxygen isotope on Earth.
3 — The initial analyses were conducted on samples that were considerably polluted before the flight by 15N nitrogen. They gave rise to results with an uncertainty of +/-20%. NASA then provided fragments from a much less polluted target containing more solar particles. The isotopic composition of the nitrogen was then determined using the new ion probe installed in CRPG in late 2009 (uncertainty of +/- 0.7%).

Why the chart is not fully accurate (the unresolved pain points)
The chart is economically optimistic but technically incomplete. It only looks at launch cost. It completely ignores the hard engineering realities that still exist even at $10–$20/kg:
Radiation: Cosmic rays and solar particles cause bit-flips and hardware degradation. Standard chips fail fast in space. Shielding adds huge mass (and therefore cost).
Heat dissipation: Vacuum is an insulator — no air for convection. The only way to cool is radiation, which requires massive radiators. Dense AI chips (especially hot-running inference chips Elon mentioned) generate enormous heat. Radiators balloon the satellite size/mass, wiping out a lot of the launch-cost savings.
Networking & latency: Laser links between satellites work, but latency and bandwidth for training (vs. inference) are still big challenges
