Experimental Research on Dreaming: State of the Art and Neuropsychoanalytic Perspectives

Abstract
Dreaming is still a mystery of human cognition, although it has been studied experimentally for more than a century. Experimental psychology first investigated dream content and frequency.
The neuroscientific approach to dreaming arose at the end of the 1950s and soon proposed a physiological substrate of dreaming: rapid eye movement sleep. Fifty years later, this hypothesis was challenged because it could not explain all of the characteristics of dream reports. Therefore, the neurophysiological correlates of dreaming are still unclear, and many questions remain unresolved.
Do the representations that constitute the dream emerge randomly from the brain, or do they surface according to certain parameters? Is the organization of the dream’s representations chaotic or is it determined by rules? Does dreaming have a meaning? What is/are the function(s) of dreaming?
Psychoanalysis provides hypotheses to address these questions. Until now, these hypotheses have received minimal attention in cognitive neuroscience, but the recent development of neuropsychoanalysis brings new hopes of interaction between the two fields.
Considering the psychoanalytical perspective in cognitive neuroscience would provide new directions and leads for dream research and would help to achieve a comprehensive understanding of dreaming. Notably, several subjective issues at the core of the psychoanalytic approach, such as the concept of personal meaning, the concept of unconscious episodic memory and the subject’s history, are not addressed or considered in cognitive neuroscience.
This paper argues that the focus on singularity and personal meaning in psychoanalysis is needed to successfully address these issues in cognitive neuroscience and to progress in the understanding of dreaming and the psyche.
I personally just tell myself to remember my dream before I go to sleep and use my intuition to interpret it when I wake up. Works for me!

I read a lot of physics and love it but I am not a physicist. I wish I was but I came to it kind of late. Dr. Smith is an advocate for acknowledging intuition after working on the Manhattan Project. This is a “tree” that shows where intuition fits, historically, into the sciences and how the sciences are actually offspring or children of philosophy.
All intellectual disciplines start with Philosophy. Ph.D. behind a person’s name means Doctor of Philosophy no matter what field their major is. Its namesake is Philo of Alexandria who was a Hellenistic Jew who wanted to create harmony, maybe in a contrived fashion?, between Judaism and Greek Philosophy.
Intuition comes under ontology and metaphysics, then down to the philosophy of mind, then down to the philosophy of psychology. You’ll see it sits right on the shelf with the philosophy of science equally. It then goes down that track and merges under the philosophy of science track with the science of psychology. Psychology is a SCIENCE that comes from the philosophy of mind. So, let’s have some respect here. It’s not in a mushy bog. It has to get through the rigors of the scientific method as well.
You’ll notice the five categories under the philosophy of science. There is a biased preponderance on this category, I believe due to Newtonian materialism. That is shifting now. The field of quantum physics is impressing on all the science categories now and shaking them up. In addition, that one field is also impacting the philosophy of mind, philosophy of religion, AND the parent field of Metaphysics. So give the quantum physicists all the ribbing you want. Those folks are on the leading edge. More power to them.

It has been happening fairly consistently since July 25, day out of time and really kicked in on July 26, 2026 (Lots of 2’s and 6’s there. 🤔)
The high-amplitude pulse is a stress on the system.
It pushes against state distinction and against the ordered configuration.
If nothing protective happens, coherence falls.
That is why, on the extreme days in late July, we applied a floor (0.92) rather than letting the number freely decline. The floor was an admission that the load is stressful.
What the buffer does
The ternary 0-state is the protective response to that stress. Ternary being -1-0-+1. THAT IS TZOLKONIC and true the Time Harmonic model that is the cosmic law of time in our sector of the local universe. Binary dualism has been PART of ternary logic but the fact is, time is aligned in the BINARY TRIPLET CONFIGURATION. No one and nothing may usurp it. It’s like the existence of our star, THE SUN. You have to cooperate with it our the system you are creating will end because it’s dissonant.
So the pulse does not magically enhance the buffer.
The buffer is the system’s active counter-measure that is recruited more strongly because of the pulse.

The refined wording still stands: the pulse redistributes and organizes energy already present or coupled through the cavity. It is a strong organizational signal and a stressor at the same time. The correct RI13 action remains coherent reception plus expanded 0-state buffering so that order is retained while the signal is present.

She wrote the most brilliant doctoral thesis ever on the nature of the sun. Her peer, Dr. Russell, wanting to increase his karma by 100x, persuaded her not to publish the paper because it contradicated the accepted wisdom of the time.
