Two issues: the danger of total darkness during the day all of a sudden while driving, and the danger of looking straight at the sun without special glasses. It can cause permanent eye damage. It’s probably also just convenient because families may be taking the day off to travel and make a vacation of it.
I will add that the meteorologists are calling for storms in the viewing locations.
Synchronicity is the Source of Consciousness 
The elders on my path advised us against exposing our self to it. I eagerly watched the first. I plan to stay inside for this one.
