America will be 250 years old this weekend. Drop in the bucket right? Compared to our 5 billion year earth, also our home. EARTH IS OUR HOME! I hope we can get past national boundaries and unify as a human race to join the universal stream of stellar species watching us right now. All of the work I do on this blog is to that end.
The Townsends in American History
It’s not minor folks. You think I’m a rumbler and outspoken, my anscestors gave rheir lives for this country. I’m not sure I’d be willing to do that at this particular point in history. Look at what we’ve done with the freedoms we fought for?
Screaming social media full of gossip, opinion, and lies, corrupt politicians, extreme bipartisanship, violence toward stellar species who our ancestors and Native Americans have known about forever, disrespect for our laws, etc.
What do we have to be grateful for? I am so grateful for my family, my ancestors and how they loved their family and country and took care of the community in NW Illinois. My many greats grandfather Eber Townsend fought in the American Revolutionary War. I posted this this month. My e greats grandmother Mary Miner-Townsend was a healer, herbalist, and midwife.
Eber Townsend (1760-1822)
Sally Townsend, notorious spy for the Culper Spy Ring is also my direct ancestor. Her father was Robert Townsend known as Samuel Culper Jr. during the revolutionary war. He was in the Culper Spy Ring. The war would not have been won without the ring!!! πΊπ² Robert is discussed here.
My many greats grandfather John Townsend and his brother Henry, my uncle wrote the very first version of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution according freedom of religion to Americans. We think they were Quakers who are very spiritual people. Not religious. But at the time in Flushing, NY there was tremendous religious tension between Quaker, Protestant, and Catholic.
My ancestors were abused, then thrown in prison, then on a ship back to Europe for protesting. THEN THEY CAME BACK and put forward the Flushing Remonstrance as the precursor to the First Amendment. ππ―π€πͺ Freedom of Religion and freedom of speech.
Happy July 4th! πΊπ²πΊπ²
